Walk 23 completed

August 20, 2010

Ullswater from Seat Sandal

Ullswater from Seat Sandal. The peak is Birk Fell, a subsidiary of Place Fell.

Another one done: starting at Dunmail Raise and bagging four fells as I came over St Sunday Crag and down to Patterdale. Read all about it: walk 23. It was a bit wet and somewhat cold, and I had to rush the end because of the usual rubbish bus connections to Patterdale, but it was basically a good walk.

I have now bagged 75 of the 214 Wainwrights, which means I have 139 to go. I have walked a total of 211.07 miles and ascended a total of 66,328 feet.

Wetherlam and Grasmere

Wetherlam and Grasmere, viewed from Nab Scar

On a rather soggy day in what has become a rather soggy summer, I took Joe on a long day trip for what turned out to be the shortest walk so far, walk 22, though we managed to bag two fells (Nab Scar and Heron Pike). Despite the conditions the walk turned out OK, as the clouds did eventually clear to leave some decent views, such as this shot across Grasmere towards Wetherlam in the Coniston Fells.

As of today then I have bagged 71 of the 214 Wainwrights and have 143 to go – this means I am almost exactly one-third of the way through the list of fells (and therefore means I have twice as much still to do as I have done so far). I have walked 204.72 miles and climbed approximately 63,462 feet.

Next walk planned for ten days’ time (19th August): if the weather allows.
