Walker on Hindscarth

Walker on Hindscarth. The Scafell Pike range (with Great End to far left) and Great Gable in the background.

Wainwright’s Pictorial Guide is divided into seven volumes, and when I came off Ard Crags at the end of my latest walk – walk 54 – I thereby bagged the last of the 29 fells in volume 6, The Northwestern Fells; thus giving it the distinction of the first volume I have completed. Four other fells joined it today, Dale Head, Hindscarth, Robinson and Knott Rigg. I hope you enjoy reading about them and looking at the pictures on the individual fell pages and the walk page.

Memory-Map is playing up again so although I have a rough idea of how much and how high I walked (13.5 miles and 3800 feet approximately) I will not yet add these figures to the official total. I have now bagged 167 of the 214 Wainwrights thus have 47 to go (Hindscarth was the point at which there were fifty to go.) Next walk in a fortnight, I hope – as long as my left knee stays intact.
