200 fells reached and ‘The Southern Fells’ completed

Finished off the four-day break in Eskdale with two further walks: walk 63 took me round Harter Fell and Hard Knott and walk 64 up the valley pictured here – Upper Eskdale – over Crinkle Crags and eventually down to Langdale. Two long walks, to add to the long walk I did on Monday…. I’m tired!

But, in the last month – and despite some lousy weather – I have bagged a total of 22 Wainwrights and the back of the project is well and truly broken, the end is in sight. Cold Pike, reached on the second of these two walks, achieves the distinction of being fell number 200: and I have also completed a third Wainwright volume, this being The Southern Fells (volume 4).

As of today then, I have bagged 201 of the 214 Wainwright fells, thus have 13 to go. I have walked a total of 654.01 miles and ascended approximately 191,792 feet.

The pace is increasing, because it has to if I am to finish this by the necessary deadline. Walked yesterday (Monday) to complete walk 62, over the fell of Seatallan and its satellites, and intend to do two more walks this week, though I won’t get to blog about them until the weekend.

As of today then I have done 196 of the 214 Wainwrights, thus have 18 to go. I have walked a total of 631.68 miles and ascended approximately 184,660 feet. (I will get over 200,000 feet for the whole project but don’t think I’ll quite hit 700 miles.)

 

‘The Eastern Fells’ completed

A straightforward, half-day’s walk yesterday (Tuesday 14th August), walk 61, saw me bag two more fells, Catstycam (the highest one I had left) and Birkhouse Moor. Two completions to note – Catstycam completes all the top 10 highest fells in Lakeland (indeed, I’ve now done all the top 16) and I also finished off Wainwright’s volume 1, The Eastern Fells.

As of today then, I have bagged 193 of the 214 Wainwrights, thus have 21 to go. I have walked a total of 617.45 miles and ascended approximately 181,087 feet.
