Walk 90: the last of 2014
December 30, 2014
I had been hoping to get another walk in before 2014 was consigned to history, and thanks to the Christmas break coinciding with an excellent run of weather this week, walk 90 could indeed take place before the New Year. In superb weather I revisited two fells done earlier this year, the two in the Blawith Knott chapter, and then a new one, Burney. Walk 90 was a long walk — 15 miles, and with the time of year, I finished it almost in the dark — but redeemed by its excellent views, of which you can see a couple here, and there are more on the walk 90 page on which the route, which for a lot of the time follows the Cumbria Way, is described in detail.
So ends 2014. I have not done as many walks this year as I hoped, with only 13 completed. 47 new Wainwrights have been bagged, starting with Beacon Fell in January (walk 78) and ending today with Burney. As of today, then, I have done 281 of the 330 Wainwrights, and have 49 to go.
However, as well as these 47 I have also done 9 for the second time, viz, Orrest Head; Binsey; Bonscale Pike; Loadpot Hill; Arthur’s Pike; Kentmere Pike; Shipman Knotts; and, today, Tottlebank Height and Blawith Knott. So I have reached 12 on an emerging second round of the 330 — and all still, just about, by public transport.
Happy New Year whatever you plan to do with it…
