Lyth Valley

The Lyth Valley, from Scout Scar

That there is a line closure between Hebden Bridge and Burnley at the moment is not encouraging me to go on walks. I would need to get up at 5.15 on most days and it’s been busy at work, forgive me.

However, being at the in-laws’ in Morecambe this Christmas has enabled me to bypass that blockage and so gave me the chance to use Christmas Eve to get a couple more Outyling Fells in during 2013. Thanks to dubious weather forecasts I took what is, for me, probably the easiest single public transport journey in the whole Lake District and walked from Kendal. Read about it on the walk 77 page and the Scout Scar page.

South from Scout Scar

View south from Scout Scar. I think the Three Peaks of Yorkshire (Whernside, Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent) are forming the horizon, blending into one another (but I could be wrong)

Great views today, as I hope these photos make clear, and this was the longest walk I’ve managed anywhere since August so much-needed exercise. I have now done 234 of the full list of 330 Wainwrights, thus have 96 to go.

And a happy Christmas to you all. Thanks for following my blog. I will continue, with my next walk hopefully in January. See you in 2014.    Drew Whitworth
