Kent valley, looking south

The Kent valley, looking south from the Shipman Knotts – Kentmere Pike ridge. Green Quarter Fell is the prominent hump in the middle distance.

Thanks to the vagaries of the Oxenholme Connection I did not end up being able to do exactly the walk I had planned, but still, walk 87 did get completed, and did bag me two new fells (the two summits in the Green Quarter Fell chapter of volume 8) and two old ones in Kentmere Pike and Shipman Knotts. The weather was good, particularly in the morning, and it came through with one of the better photos I have managed to acquire in my five years doing this, pictured here. A long walk however — at 16.6 miles, the second-longest I’ve done, and over 3400 feet of ascent too, so not a walk to be underestimated.

I have now done 272 of the 330 Wainwrights and have 58 to go. As there are 116 summits in The Outlying Fells, having 58 to go also means I am halfway through that volume. The next walk won’t be until October. In the mean time, read more on the walk 87 page… I need to bathe my aching feet.
