Scafell and Slight Side, viewed through rainbow

Scafell and Slight Side, viewed from Dow Crag: 12.30pm, 24/9/10

In the teeth of a vicious 60mph gale yesterday I completed the remaining Coniston Fells (having done the northern half of this range last year): Dow Crag, Brim Fell and Coniston Old Man. Read about it on the new walk 25 page. As you can see from this photo, there were some spectacular views, despite the wind.

I have also reached the ‘silver jubilee’ in terms of the number of walks done. Having now done 80 of the 214 Wainwrights (thus I have 134 to go), I am averaging exactly 3.2 fells per walk. I have walked a total of 225.56 miles and climbed approximately 71,094 feet.

Next walk due on the weekend of 15/16 October… weather permitting (though I am increasingly inclined to set out whatever the weather, so wish me luck!)

A glorious day

The view from Low Fell

The classic view from Low Fell; Crummock Water, High Stile range in the background, Mellbreak on the right.

…with great views, wild blackberries, warm sunshine, no people, and wading across a freezing river. Read about this action-packed ramble around the Fellbarrow range on the walk 24 page.

As of today I have climbed 77 of the 214 Wainwrights, thus have 137 to go. I have walked 218.02 miles and ascended approximately 68,059 feet.
